Photo Booth for Date Night Dance

The University of Utah Institute is awesome! I've done a couple of events for them and each one gets better and better. This activity was a fun date night. I really wish BYU had an awesome institute program like the U does. Because we have done a photo booth at multiple events the students get really into it. We had a line for most of the night. If you are new to my blog and this is the first photo booth you have seen of mine, know that it is my studio. Majoring in Photography I feel in love with the studio. How else could you take 900 photos in two hours? And with my amazing husband we are able to print out photos strips on the spot. I knew I married him for a reason! Thanks Jon I love you so much!

Amanda and Kyle are some of the nicest people I've ever met. We had so much fun running around Sugarhouse and Salt Lake City finding the most interesting places to photograph. I love the vintage colors and they match Amanda's personality so well. She made her hair bow and I love it. I wish I could be so crafty and stylish all at the same time!

My sister Julie is an awesome graphic designer and she has been helping me understand different layers and masks in photoshop. I totally love the way they have been turning out. Gio and Angie: Utah Engagment Photographer

Okay, Angie, I love yeah girl! This post is just for you, since you asked and your so darn cute. (Krista, I'll get your photos up asap too.) I had a blast shooting Gio and Angie's photos at Trolley Square. I love that they choose such an awesome location! The history and cool vintage features of Trolley Square make it the perfect setting for engagement photos. It's starting to get supper late for me so I will try and make this fast....I know I'm lame it's only mid-night. Anyway, on to the best part Photos!

Bountiful Utah Wedding

I have never cried at a wedding before...until this one. I know that everybody always says that everybody cries at weddings, but I never did. I just couldn't handle feeling the sweet emotion that was felt during the father and daughter dance. You could feel the whole families joy at the marriage and how much Amber's dad truly loved her and it was hard for him to give her away. I can also say that the know how to throw a party the karaoke, dancing and cake fight were the best. Congratulations Rhett and Amber on a beautiful marriage and on your life together!

Lauren is a good friend of a friend. I was so lucky to get to meet her and photograph her. She is absolutely stunning in photographs and has a confidence that carries beautifully through her photographs. She was a blast to photograph laughing and dancing as we went along. I just loved shooting Annie she was a doll to work with. As a you can see we shoot until night fall and it was a blast to do light painting in her last couple of shots. Julie is just so drop dead gorgeous! I love her fairy tale princess dress! Oh, and I adore how kind, happy, and full of life she is. It was like being on the set of Ever After. And while no birds or came and landed on her shoulder--a wet dog did try and attack her! Luckily it's owners were able to calm it down before it jumped on her dress...eek! And while this entry is getting cheesier by each letter I write...I must continue, I just can't stop. Jesse is a dead ringer for prince charming and I do wish that they will live happily ever after!

Utah Photo Booths

Being a mom, wife, and a photographer can really put some stress on a girl. With a one year old constantly pulling at me and demanding my attention it's seems so dificult to acomplish even the smallest task. I hardly ever get more than fifteen minutes of work done before some thing goes wrong or someone needs my attention. As a result my blog has suffered and I haven't posted photos from the last couple of photo booths I have done. And while Mary is taking a nap I figured I better get all the photos I can up, although, there are a ton of cute photos from these event and I wish I could post more. But as dinner burns,the laundry is breeding and multiplying, the baby keeps pooping, and photos need to be burned to dvd and mailed out--I guess I should just be happy I get everything done that I do!

When I first saw Cat I was literally taken back by her stunning beauty. I have to say I felt very privileged to photograph her and Bob. And even though I was almost attacked by a big dog it was well worth it, thank goodness for muzzles!--I guess dogs don't like mail carriers or photographers. Kelly is ANTM gorgeous! Not only was she model gorgeous she was fierce to. Not to mention smart, chemistry major. She and David were so much fun to photograph. They made me love photographing them. Emily's Bat Mitzvah

Last Saturday it was a pleasure to be part of Emily's Bat Mitzvah. She is a wonderful girl. One of the smartest, most mature, practical, but still extremely fun thirteen year olds I've ever meet. I did learn a couple of things by photographing my first Bat Mitzvah. One being I really wish I would have taken a World Religions class at BYU. Then I wouldn't have asked so many dumb questions. Ok-just so the rest of you know. And I swear somewhere in my little blonde head I knew it too, but I was nervous and asked both of these questions in a row. "So would they have a copy of the Torah at home." The Rabbi answered yes the would have it in book version not on the roll like this one here is. I think this was the kindest way he could have answered because later I overheard in the ceremony that the Torah is the first five books of the old testement. So in actuality I have the Torah in book form at home too. I felt completely stupid. I the next question I asked was, "Is the Torah in Latin." Oh my...no no it's in Hebrew. If I was thinking I would have known. But know I will never forget and I must admit that Emily's talk inspired me to brush up on my old testement.

Ok, so one day my life will slow down and I can actually write and blog a whole post. But I get so excited after a shoot and I want to share it with everyone! Cat was so hot that I thought the fire station was a great place to take her photos. I loved her long legs so I tried to emphasize them throughout the shoot. Because heaven knows I would give my two front teeth to have long legs like that. Some girls have all the luck! I love them and there will be more to come!

Skyline Highschool Graduation Party!

It was held at Lifetime Fitness and it was awesome. They had everything there; swimming, racket ball, rock climbing (the rock-wall was amazing!), blow up toys, some sort of booth with flying money and ME! I think this group of boys played ping pong most of the night...I felt like I was back in China with how seriously Skyline students took their ping pong!
The girl on the left was hystarical. I had to put down my camera because I was laughing so hard.

I loved these little dresses! Oh, and Skyline studetns are very polite!
The trick is to make random faces as fast as you can until I take the photo.

East side rocks....did I get that right? I guess I'll have to study up a bit on my signs.

Salt Lake Temple Wedding

We had beautiful weather for this wedding. Even when the clouds threatened to storm it was gorgeous. Jon thought he would be busy writing his law review paper, so I somehow managed to make one of my dear friends from high school be my assistant. Little did Jon know that our car and baby disagread with his good study habits. After dropping me off at Temple Square, Jon started home. He only made it to 1300 E before our car gave one last heive and died. I had Michelle, my friend, drive me home and then I paniced about how to get to the reception. Luckly a neighbor let me borrow their car and everything turned out ok. Except for our car I still don't know what's wrong with it. I hate car trouble!

I can't help it, I've made a new photo friend and she has inspired me! Her name is Kristy and she owns Kristy C Photo. She is awesome at Photoshop and has been showing me a few things. It is so much fun! So I've been staying up late and working on a few things to share. I'm sure I will have more to post later, my one year old willing...She is them most attention driven baby I have ever meet!

I love these photos of Jon and I that I took on tripod and self timer in China. A kiss on the great wall is wonderful! You should all do it once in your life. And if you ever get the chance to live abroad in your early marriage I highly recommend it! It will strengthen you in way you would never know and the memories I made are some of my favorite.

When these little babies arrived in the mail I couldn't keep my jaw from dropping to the floor! They are awesome and one is included in our $1399 package. Such an insanely nice album at and even crazier price! But if you want leather and the little baby books you must book our top package. But boy is it worth it! They are made in Italy with real Italian leather. Goodness, photos have never had it so good! I feel that mad props are due to the photographer who recommended these albums to me. THANK YOU Amy of Amy Lynn Studios. Amy is an awesome photographer!
Oh, and I must mentions that we now have photo strips available in matte, glossy and COLOR! The photobooth is free with any of our wedding packages. We print off these little numbers for the guest and the guest book.

I was so excited to take these photos for my friend's family. I guess it's rare that they are all in town for a family reunion. It was a little bit crazy because we took most of the weekend off to go and visit Jon's family up in Bennington. A little town in Idaho close to Bear Lake. So we met for photos at Sundance on our way back into town. I was a little worried that everything might not meet up time wise. But it worked out perfectly. The clouds were a little threatening, but luckly they didn't decide to pour down in quarter-sized drops until after the photo shoot. The kids' photos are my favorite!

New Hair Cut

I was awkward eeexxxtremely awkward when I was fourteen. I wish I had a photo, but I think I burned them during a violent bratty teenage breakdown. My older sister Julie has been my mentor through all of my life's trials. So when I was fourteen and going through this right of passage she convinced my mom to take me to have Oscar cut my hair. I have been hooked ever since! He turned me from awkward shy teenage girl to self absorbed drama queen. Seriously, I had to--HAD TO--have him do my hair for every prom. He is amazing! He just understands female beauty. He can see it in any woman and enhances it. If any bride is looking for a hairdresser for their wedding I'll send you his info.

Red Carpet Event:Utah Photo booths

When I think of Rice-Eccles Stadium I usually think of tailgating football fans in a sea of red. I never knew that the stadium had a romantic side to it! The view was to die for. We brought our fanciest red velvet backdrop. I felt just like the paparazzi as I flashed around 700 images! I'm thinking of quitting the wedding biz and joining the crew at TMZ. Too bad the only celebrity in Utah is Gary Coleman.

Cross Process Lomo Action

I bought my first lomo camera at the Sydney Museum of Fine Art. It was a cute little plastic camera that took four photos in a row. One of my favorite professors, Joe Ostraff, had one and I was very jealous of his cool photos. He also let me borrow his Holga. I remember developing film in hostel bathrooms and making prints by the light of our flashlights. My photos amazed my professors so much that they convinced me to change my major from fine art to photography. I made it into the program and the rest is history.

Wedding Songs

I love details. It drives my husband crazy! I love planning details. I sometimes wish I could have been engaged for longer just so I could have ooed and gooed more over all the details. I had an extremely short engagement. It was about three months. Jon was really excited to have me all to himself. He said, "if he would have given me more time, I might have had enough time to think about it and decide not to go through with it." Fat chance! I love him too much. I would have just used the time to plan more details. I'm sure that I drove Jon and my mother crazy. Although, you do only get married once! Now I love to ask brides about all their little detials. I love to know what's in and what I might have done differently if I were to get married this year instead of in 2005. My last bride had the cutest song for their couples dance. Once she told me it, I listened to it for days. And of course then I listened to Jon and mine song. I don't know if Jon realizes it's our song because he came in and saw it on youtube and said, "I don't like that music video." To that I say, "tough!" As the girl I am in charge of choosing our song and any other detail! We once got in a fight about a green blender that he has never lived down.

Photoshop Action 1

High school summer jobs. My friend Nanette always tried to convince me to be life guard with her, my pasty white skin was always jealous of her nice tan. We both worked at Lagoon, a local amusement park, she worked in the glowing sunlight of the water park and I spent my summer in the red hue of the darkroom at the Old Fashioned Photo Parlor. It was awesome! They had a dark room and large format cameras. Needless to say I was hooked. A couple years ago my friend Michelle wanted her little sister to have my same job at Lagoon. Through her I learned that they had gone digital, as has most of the world. Photoshop has become the darkroom of digital photography. My schooling at BYU taught me both. I always felt like I knew my way around the darkroom and around Photoshop. Until lately.... Since shooting more and more weddings I find myself around more and more photographers. A couple weeks ago I found myself having this conversation.

her, "What actions do you use?"
me, "Actions?"
her, "You know actions, you use them in Photoshop. You know what Photoshop is, right."
me....please don't make me punch you, "Yeah, I know what Photoshop is."
her, "you know you use them on your Photographs and they do cool things. Like I really want this action that does....."
me, "oh, I guess I just do that in Photoshop."

So I decided that I had better figure out what actions were and how to use them. Once I saw what they were and how to make them I decided to make my own. Bellow is an action that I made. I actually like to use actions now. If any other photographer out there doesn't know what an action is, like I didn't, I would love to chat and get you up to speed. Photo booth at the Delta Center: Utah photo booths

Jon felt Deron Willaims as we drove up to the front doors of the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. It was my first time to be in the stadium-ever! I know growing up in Utah I should have been to a game by now. Infact I don't know why I haven't..my mom is an avide Jazz fan. I think maybe she was banned from the Delta center for her avid cursing at the judges and never told me about it, and that's why she's never taken me. Even though the Jazz are on the road, it was an amazing experience to be able to do a photo booth up in the skybox. We set up the photo booth so that in one corner you could have your photo shot out over the arena and in the other corner you could do it on our white backdrop. I love all the shots. But I must admit it was amazing to shoot over the stadium. The students from LDS BC know how to rock a party!

Bountiful Wedding: Utah Wedding Photography

One thing you should know about me is that I'm horrible with names. I am trying so hard to be better with this! I know how important it is to remember names. I've read the first chapter of How to Win Friends and Influence People. Still I struggle! When I was young original names were easy for me to remember. I still can remember the first Quincy, Bo, and Van that I meet in grade school. Now that I'm older learning a new name is like trying to learn Chinese. Or trying to remember the Chinese I've learned. It's hard! So when I first started to talk to Kedrick it was over email. And I read his name Keedrick. So I kept calling him KEYdrick. I must apologize to him! To make matters worse during my last photo shoot I kept calling Christian--Kedrick...I finally started to say Kedrick. But, of coarse, it was with the wrong person! I'm working on this. I'm setting a goal to be better. I love these photos of Kedrick and.......Ok, so I know her name is Krystal but I don't know how to spell it. Spelling is one of my other really weak points. Cristal, Kristal, Crystal, hummmm....I even tried to find an email with it in it... I just hope that they can find it in their hearts to overlook my faults!

Teresa's Engagements: Utah Engagement Photography

It might look like the beach but be warned, its beauty is only skin deep. It has the bitter brine of the Great Salt Lake. Somehow extreme but beautiful weather conditions seem to love Teresa. The last time I hung out with her was on a road trip. We squeezed her, my great friend Michelle, and I into my little Nissan truck. It was a blazing day in summer with two window air conditioning. It was beautiful but scorching hot. Today it was beautiful, but it was also a wind storm. No amount of aqua net was going to be able to control Teresa's hair today! That said, her hair was gorgeous! She definatly knows how to rock the wind blown look.
She's a cute little bag or potatoes! Love the way the her hair is blowing in the wind!

How to lose ten pounds in one photo!

Julie, my sister, and I have been very close despite the difference of eight years in age. She has been my mentor, and I've been imittating her since I was one. She is a great business woman and owner of Cosmo Cricket Scrapbook Products. For years we have talked like best friends. And inevitably, like any two girls, we discus how we are going to make our very voluptuous Rubenisc bodies into the more modern petite Degasisc ballet dancer bodies. Julie is always telling me the latest diet she is trying. I take very good notes that I decide to eat with chocolate later. As we both struggle with this war that has plagued women for decades, I mentioned to Julie there are a few tricks to deceive a photo into making you look like you have lost ten pounds. This is a much better trick than the gaining ten pounds that the camera usually adds! And since I know that as women; we are always struggling to lose that extra ten pounds that we gained in college, after we had that baby, we need to lose before summer...you get the idea. These are handy to have up your sleeve.

Julie was a great sport to pose for these photos. We hurried and snapped them in the five minute interval that we overlapped down at my mom's house. Seriously, I got there late and she was already asleep and then she left bright and early in the morning. I was literally running around convincing her we could squeeze it in somewhere between Jack crying to take home his rock collection and Kate and Abby's pigtails.

I'm so glad that Rebecca decided to do a photo booth. I adore the photos I got of her! We printed out double strips so that guest could put one in her book and keep one for themselves. We had a blast!

Rebecca and Noah are simply the cutest together! Rebecca simply lights up when she sees him. The Kimball art center in Park City was the perfect backdrop for their special day. This was my first experience shooting a Jewish wedding. The ceremony was so sacred, peaceful and beautiful. I was so glad that I could be a part of capturing that!

When I woke up last Saturday and saw the snow I was a little bummed. I was worried about driving up to Ogden in bad weather. But when we left at two it was sunny. Utah always has the strangest weather. It was fun to see my high school friend Nicole and her extended family. Here mother in law wanted something traditional with the family all together. So my loving hubby, Jon, programed some new softwear and was able to get the photos on my photostrips bigger. So now you can see your photos even better. Mary's So Sad!

I've been helping out my sister by babysitting her four kids. And with Mary that makes five total kids! I'm not so sure I'm cut out to be a mother anymore. Jon couldn't miss law school so I've been here since Friday by myself. Last night went something like this.

10:00-11:30pm Mary laughed and giggled (I have no clue what was so funny in the dark)
1:00-2:00 am Jack woke up and cried for his parents (I layed on his flour until he feel asleep)
2:00am Mary woke up
3:30 Abby woke up sick and then woke the whole house up (gave her some children's Tylenol mostly to drug her back to sleep)
4:00 Mary woke up
6:00 Ethan woke up to go to school
7:00 helped the girls off to school

And if you think Mary looked sad you should see me!

Salt Lake Wedding

The Salt Lake Temple was beautiful in the sunset. The bride and groom were so much fun. I love being around people who are so in love. But it was a fun kind of love (only a little mushy-but mostly fun!) The Temple was a beautiful backdrop for the couple and group shots. The white house in Bountiful was a great location to have a reception. Here are their photos.

I get such a rush from shooting a wedding! I just had to stay on my high and post some photos from today. The couple was so much fun to photograph! Garrett was funny and kept making jokes. Here are a few shots that we took at the Salt Lake City Temple. I will post a more comprehensive post later that will include everyone getting down with the photo booth at the reception.

Besides photography I stay at home with my nine month old daughter. With the onset of teething she has been having troubles sleeping through the night. As a result of this I get watch the wonderful infomercials that come on at three in the morning. Well, "Your Baby Can Read" has caught on to this and often comes on when I'm up with my daughter. I've been tempted to buy it, but I get worried buying things off the tv. So I thought I would make a cute home education video for my baby. I'm only in the beginning phase of it so I have only compiled a handful of images for my video. Before I know it I hope she can say and read, "eyes, nose, mouth!"

New Trends and The Updated Photo booth

What's hot now? Are trumpet skirts in? Will candy and dessert bars still be as popular in 2009? Here's our forecast.

Trend 1: Rustic homespun details

Outdoor weddings -- on a farm, in a vineyard, or even in the backyard -- are huge right now, and we'll continue to see a lot of them in 2009. It's really no wonder: An outdoor setting makes for a fun, laid-back vibe and the decor options are limitless. So what kinds of details are in store? Vintage vases filled with fresh-from-the-garden flowers, mismatched china in bright colors, and homemade wooden signs to direct guests. Even catering is in on the action with in-season ingredients paired with local wine.

Trend 2: Jewel tones

Say good-bye to pale pastels and bright poppies. Rich gem colors like navy, plum, and amber are going to be hot. And instead of chocolate brown, look to a soft creme brulee hue, bronzes, coppers, and black. Yes, that's right -- black is back too.

Trend 3: Patterns that pop

Gingham, checkered, polka-dotted, paisley, toile, damask -- you name it, colorful patterns are in and in a big way. Add patterned overlays to your tables to instantly perk up the room, find an off-the-rack patterned dress for your bridesmaids, and have your invitations and envelopes lined with colorful designs. The best part about this trend is that it lets you throw around a lot of different hues and still keep a cohesive look and feel.

Trend 4: Ball gowns are back

From a full A-line gown to a very over-the-top design, this silhouette will make a huge resurgence down ceremony aisles this year. And you don't have to have a ballroom wedding to pull it off either -- the key is in the fabric. Find one with layers of airy tulle or even cotton for an outdoor spring or summer wedding; get a silk satin ball gown for a more formal wedding; or go for ultra-soft suede for a wintertime wedding.

Trend 5: Two-tiered wedding cakes

While cupcakes and dessert bars have been popular for the past few years, wedding cakes are making a comeback -- but not in tall towers anymore. Now it's all about having just two tiers. Order several small cakes and put them on each table as a centerpiece, or set up a table of tiny wedding cakes mixed with desserts, cookies, pies, and more. And vintage cake toppers are in too. Find one online at a site like Etsy.com, commission one from a local artist, or borrow your parents' or grandparents' to make your cake extra-memorable.

Trend 6: New centerpiece vessels

The classic floral vase has given way to mix-and-matched clusters of vintage pitchers, vases, jars, and galvanized buckets. Other ideas: apothecary jars with colorful rocks, sand, or even candy; uniquely shaped glass vases featuring fresh fruits like raspberries and blueberries; and mason jars loaded with fresh flowers like daisies and dahlias. To throw extra color or texture into the mix, line your flower-filled vases with patterned paper or even fabric. For a wintertime fete, get knit and sweater-like coverings to line your vases and complement a cozy decor.

Trend 7: Chandeliers and creative lighting

Lighting designers are turning out impressive designs, projecting chandeliers, large trees, flowers, and even city skylines right onto the walls. When it comes to your space, hang chandeliers in different sizes, add colorful lamps and shades to the tables, line the room with strands of twinkling lights, and don't skimp on the candles.

Trend 8: The updated photo booth

Renting a photo booth has been growing in popularity over the past few years. The updated version? Entire photo sets with fabric backdrops and props. Set up a photo area at the reception that's big enough for a group shot. Drape the background with fabric and add couches, chairs, and plenty of props (think easy-to-throw-on hats and scarves). You may be able to have your photographer or an assistant man the station, or ask a trusty friend to be on hand with a digital camera.

Trend 9: US honeymoons

This year, newlyweds will prove that you don't have to travel halfway around the world to find an amazing honeymoon spot. Many will be looking to book a honeymoon right here in the US. And there's no shortage of domestic honeymoon-worthy options -- from a romantic winery in Sonoma County, California, to a hot hotel in Miami, Florida, to a cozy lodge with a stunning view in Juneau, Alaska.

Here is a sneak peek of some bridals I took for my friend Shantai. We took them in a Thai restaurant. The owner was super cool about letting us come in during off hours and taking photos. We did get a few off looks form some usuals that apparently like to eat at all hours of the day. What? You don't go out for Thai dressed up in your wedding dress? All in all it was a lot of fun. tThese photos were so much fun to take at the State Capitol. I loved being able to shoot out across Salt Lake City. The bride was so such a good sport to come up from Provo to Salt Lake to take these photos. I loved her dress it was simply just elegant. We had a blast using the gorgeous sunset light and then later shooting into dusk. I can't wait to shoot her wedding up in Logan!

As you might recall from a couple posts back, the University had asked me to do another photo booth. Now you might be thinking, "I wonder how those photos turned out?" Wonder no more. I was stood up for the dance. (Flashback to my own high school prom.) Ok, I'm back. So I'm sorry to say that I don't have any photos from this dance, since it never took place. I wish I did, though, because they were going to be awesome! Anyway, Liz fr0m the University of Utah institute called and left a really nice message. I have tried to call her back and tell her it's OK, but she's not answering my calls. (Flashback to high school.) Ok, I'm back. All is forgiven because I love working with the LDSSA students there. I still want to work with them and I'll let you know the next time I shoot at an LDS Institute party. Until then I'm done with this love/hate relationship. Me and the U of U institute should just be friends. And I was the one who decided that not you guys. (Flashback to high school.....)

Adventures in Babysitting

I had a great time taking the kids to the Living Plant Aquarium in Sandy. I must say their Aunt Becky sure does spoil them! They thought it was fun to make fishy faces next to the fun murals painted on the walls. My sister owns a scrapbook company called, Cosmo Cricket, I know she will love to use this with some of her products. Aren't they the cutest kids?

This is my friend Shelly she lives in my same apartment complex. She has the cutest little family EVER! I loved photographing them. I must admit that her two year old kept me on my toes!
